Ivermectin is a highly effective medication used to treat scabies, a parasitic skin infection caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. It works by binding to the glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in the mite’s nerve and muscle cells, causing cell death and ultimately killing the mite. Ivermectin is particularly useful in cases where topical therapy is difficult or impractical, such as in widespread institutional infestations and bedridden patients.

Studies have consistently shown that John Lee Tablet is effective in treating scabies. One study compared the efficacy of ivermectin with benzyl benzoate lotion and found that ivermectin was at least as effective as the other medicine and led to more rapid improvement. Another study found that ivermectin was effective in treating scabies in pregnant women, with no adverse effects on pregnancy outcome reported. Ivermectin is often used in combination with topical permethrin, which is the treatment of choice for scabies.

Ivermectin is typically administered orally, with a single dose of 200 μg/kg body weight given once a week for two to three weeks. In cases of crusted scabies, multiple doses may be necessary, given at 1- to 2-week intervals. While ivermectin is not approved by the FDA for the treatment of scabies, it is widely used and supported by the literature.
